We are pleased to announce that Looseleaf is growing in exciting ways. Most significantly for our clients, some truly talented editors have joined the Looseleaf team, which will shorten the wait time for new and existing clients who schedule our top-notch services. Even though we are growing, Kristy S. Gilbert—Looseleaf’s founder and executive editor—personally directs and coaches our team of editors to ensure that we still provide Looseleaf’s unique suite of editing and book layout services to get your book reader-ready (read more about our growing team further below).
In addition to continuing as Looseleaf’s executive editor, Kristy has accepted invitations to serve as production editor at Dragonsteel Books (Brandon Sanderson’s independent publishing company) and as managing editor at Pegasus Books (Charlie Holmberg’s independent publishing company). Both of these opportunities reflect a growing awareness in the independent publishing industry of the editorial and design expertise available at Looseleaf.
As you may have heard, Brandon Sanderson recently announced the forthcoming publication of four secret novels as a crowd-funded project that became—within 72 hours of its launch—the most funded Kickstarter project of all time. In order to publish these books rapidly while incorporating high production standards, Dragonsteel Books has recruited Kristy to join their world-class team for the next year. As Brandon has acknowledged about Kristy’s work on previous books of his, “Kristy’s talents and hard work … can be seen on every page.”
Among her responsibilities for Pegasus Books, Kristy is in charge of several facets of bringing to market Charlie Holmberg’s Nerds of Happy Valley contemporary romance series published under Charlie’s quasi-nom-de-plume C. N. Holmberg. Specifically, Kristy handles copyediting, layout design (for print and ebook), hiring freelancers, and liaising with cover designers. She also coordinates title management across Bowker, KDP, and Ingram Spark. While Kristy is excited to do editing work for both Dragonsteel Books and Pegasus Books, she is contractually obligated to confess—sincerely—that Charlie is still her favorite.
While Kristy is delighted about these new opportunities, she is most gratified by the caliber of capable professionals who have recently joined Looseleaf’s team.
The Team
Kristina Kugler is a manuscript evaluator and line editor who has been editing for over two decades. She specializes in science fiction and fantasy for all ages and in contemporary YA fiction. Her stellar prose-slicking talents have been put to use line editing Brandon Sanderson’s Rhythm of War, line editing four of Sanderson’s collaborations with Janci Patterson, and copyediting the Tankborn trilogy by Karen Sandler. Kristina’s a sucker for historical fantasy mashups and enjoys crocheting amigurumi. Learn more about Kristina here.
Faralee Pozo is a line editor and copyeditor who is an energetic advocate for stories. Her first love is young adult and middle grade science fiction and fantasy, but she truly enjoys other genres (including sweet romance) and loves to see books that blur boundaries and expectations. She created and published the indie literary magazine The Weird and Whatnot for several years. Faralee loves playing and creating tabletop games with her family. Learn more about Faralee here.
Rachel Hulet is a copyeditor and typesetter who likes a dash of romance and a heap of fantasy in her reading. Rachel helped develop Looseleaf’s book design templates back in 2020. In addition to her love of the fantastic and the romantic, she has published her own research and writing on linguistic identities, cultural diversity, and the power of celebrating both. She is content in her status as an incorrigible book hoarder and frequently comes home with stacks of books to add to her stacks of books. When not attempting to whittle down her TBR, Rachel enjoys golfing, mountaineering, and epic movie marathons. Learn more about Rachel here.
